This article shows the caseback with engraving.
While the journalist mistakenly called Hans Wilsdorf “Wilsberg”, the engraving apparently stems fro the 17th century of the Adenauer family. In addition, the watch comes with a letter from Hans Wilsdorf personally.
One of the grandchildren, who lives in the same town as I do, stated that he cannot remember his grandfather wearing this watch. However, the accompanying letter of Rolex assures that this was truly Chancellor Adenauer’s Rolex.
More information and details can be found in this German FAZ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) article. A photo shows Adenauer wearing exactly this Rolex watch.
Last but not least, there is a discussion about the provenance and the true ownership of this watch going on in the German Rolex Forum. What people wonder is if this Rolex was given to Adenerauer privately and personally, or rather in his duty as chancellor?
