Yesterday, July 5th, 2017, the “Commander’s Watch” was launched in London to celebrate the greatest secret agent of all time, Bond, aka James Bond. OMEGA and EON Productions celebrated the new James Bond inspired timepiece at a special event in London last Wednesday.
OMEGA proudly unveiled a new timepiece dedicated to the fame and history of James Bond. Known as the Seamaster Diver 300M “Commander’s Watch” Limited Edition, OMEGA President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann revealed the watch alongside Bond film Producer Michael G. Wilson.
To bring the occasion to life, OMEGA transported guests by boat along the River Thames to arrive at the Tate Britain. The MC for the evening, Samantha Bond, then introduced Raynald Aeschlimann, who spoke to guests about the new watch and said, “James Bond is a character with a lot of depth and intrigue. We were fascinated by his connection to the Royal Navy, which is an organisation that OMEGA also has history with, and we wanted to pay tribute to his rank as Commander.”
The Seamaster 300m has a steel case. It is limited to 7007 pieces. In addition, there will be a strictly limited edition in yellow gold with 7 pieces only.
The price of the steel Seamaster Commander’s watch will be 4600 Euros in Germany, pricing in other countries may vary due to taxes.
2017 marks three noteworthy anniversaries for Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios’ (MGM) Bond franchise including: the 50th anniversary of “You Only Live Twice”. Sean Connery was starring for the fifth time in a James Bond movie in 1967 when it came out. And for those who are curious which watch was on the wrist back in 1967, take a read over here.
Second, it marks the 40th anniversary of “The Spy Who Loved Me”, a movie where Roger Moore starred who recently passed away.
And third, the 20th anniversary of “Tomorrow Never Dies, the second James Bond movie where Pierce Brosnan was starring in 1997. ”In each of these films, James Bond can be seen wearing his official military uniform.
To celebrate these anniversaries, OMEGA created a unique watch design inspired by the red, white and blue colours of the Royal Navy as well as the Commander’s insignia itself.
It looks like the event was quite amazing as invited guests not only had the chance of glimpsing the new OMEGA “Commander’s Watch” but were also treated to a display of historic props and artwork from the James Bond archive.
OMEGA has been the choice of James Bond since 1995, when the spy first wore a Seamaster watch in the film “GoldenEye” where Pierce Brosnan was wearing a blue dialed Seamaster as far as I recall. Brosnan is nowadays a wellknown watchcollector as well which you may read about over here.
