News: Vault Swiss watches in the making

Some weeks ago, Mark Schwarz, cofounder of the “Vault“, a new watchbrand, contacted me and we ended up talking for hours over the phone about his upcoming new watchbrand, his ideas, his passion and love for mechanical watches. It was a lot of fun chatting. At the end of the conversation we parted and I wanted to write about him and his upcoming watches. Yes, upcoming. To date, these watches are still not produced, but in the process of being made.

Mark is planning to introduce the first ready timepieces during SalongQP in London in November 2017. So there are quite a few months to go. In the meantime, Mark is actually traveling the world to present his story to collectors. We just spoke, and he was in Brisbane, Australia. He is going to give me his upcoming travel plans which I will share with you.

Creating and starting a new watchbrand poses a challenge to anyone who is going this route. It is a complex adventure and until the first watches are ready you cannot predict any setbacks.

I must say, I admire what Mark is doing.

Currently Mark is traveling around the globe introducing his watchproject to collectors and watchenthusiasts alike.  He is hosting dinner events with them and connecting with those who love watches.  Some days ago I talked to him and he was in Brisbane, Australia.  His schedule for the coming two months looks like this, and if you believe you would like to join him, please contact Mark or email him.

Mark’s travel schedule 2017 until may:

  • New Zealand 21.2. – 5.3.
  • Hawaii 6.3. – 21.3.
  • LA / San Diego 22.3. – 28.3.
  • Florida 29.3. – 5.4.

Below you see an animation how the minutes are set on the watch:

The watch is set by rotating the complete movement.  This is a first time anyone is creating this.

In addition, this watch possesses a socalled “Hour gear transmission” with a rotating dial to indicate hours.  Hours and minutes are set separately by rotating the movement and then the dial.

The watchbrand is called VAULT for a reason: It is subtly incorporating the technical innovations inspired from a bankvault.

Mark calls his watch “mechanical art” which considering his approach it truly is.

I am looking forward to SalonQP 2017 to finally see Mark’s watches live and ticking.
