Not what you expected: Angelus U20 ultra skeleton Tourbillon

Not what you expected: Angelus U20 ultra skeleton Tourbillon

The U10 was an Angelus noone expected.  And, after the U10, noone really could guess what would come next.  Knowing Sebastien Chaulmontet, CEO of Angelus and creative mind as well as avid collector of vintage Angelus timepieces, he is always good for a surprise.  You bet.

So is this the new direction Angelus is going?  Looks like it when you see the three new models they just introduced at Baselworld 2016.

While blogger Frank Geelen was strongly enamored with the U30, I have to say that the Angelus U20 caught my heart.  We were sitting together at the presentation, and I had a good amount of time to shoot the Angelus U20 while he tried the U30.

While many people may have wondered what would happen after the U10, and they may have thought about some reeditions based on vintage Angelus chronographs, Angelus under the leadership of Sebastien is taking a modern route, an innovative route and staying very highend which can clearly be seen in the finishing and bevelling of movement parts.

The Angelus U20 was presented to us in two versions although only one is showing on their homepage currently.  One was a full skeleton watch, the other covered the view through to avoid seeing your skin when wearing it, probably a version which may come useful for very hairy people.  I prefer the full seethrough skeleton version. But that is just personal taste.

The case of the U20 is made of Titanium and has Carbon on the sides:

As well as on the caseback:

IMG_3643What I found very impressive was how the watch felt on the wrist.  Mind you, this is a 42mm case.  But, the case is featherlight due to its Titanium case, the carbon probably does not weight much either.  It sits so well on the wrist, and feels like you are not even wearing a watch.  But when you look at your wrist, the watch smiles with a big smile across its face.  And it smiles right into your face.
