This is a very old Omega Chronograph from the early 1930s.  When I first saw this watch, I was surprised how beautiful it looked, but the beauty of the dial made it pretty quickly clear that this dial has to be refinished.  It is virtually impossible to find an 80 year old watch with such a crisp and clear dial.  Well, I still view this old Omega Chronograph as a beautiful piece.

Now, I am questioning the provenance of this timepiece.  Was there really an Omega Chronograph made with such or a similar dial layout and which movement did it use?

I came across two auctions at Antiquorum when researching this timepiece.

The first timepiece from the auction had a slightly different dial layout, but still a lot of similarities, especially the upper chronograph pusher. The second piece Looks even closer to my above timepiece.  Both pieces were made of steel, just like mine.  Second, both pieces are using the 33.3 Caliber.  I think that should be the caliber my watch is using above.

Initially, I was wondering which movement would be in the watch?  Could it be a Lemania movement?  Which one?  A collector friend suggested it could be a Lemania Caliber 13ch (aka Omega Caliber 28.9) or a Lemania Caliber 15cht (aka Omega Caliber 33.3.  Looking at the two auctions, I am inclined to believe that the watch carries the Omega 33.3 Caliber.  Obviously, I will only be able to verify after I open this watch.

While such a perfect dial condition does not exist after 80 years, I still like the looks of the watch.  While I do not know how many of these are still around nowadays, I hardly believe it will be really a lot.  This watch is kind of an early piece of Omega history.

One good thing about  Omega is that they offer an extract of the archive which is a document showing authenticity of your  Omega timepiece, even when it is very old, as well as the provenance, where it was sold, when it was sold, and you get some data about your watch.
