Panerai Mare Nostrum Chronograph special edition – is it too large?

Panerai Mare Nostrum Chronograph special edition – is it too large?

52mm. 5.2cm. That’s truly a large Chronograph. But, before you think that this is unwearable, let me tell you something. I wore it on my wrist. And despite its large size, it did not seem as heavy as I would have expected due to its Titanium case. And as you can see in this wristshot, it seems to look fine.

Not that too many of these watches will be made. Panerai is only making 150 pieces. And these are historically inspired timepieces going back to the mid 1940s. Mare Nostrum is “our sea”, the Mediterranean Sea.

This model was most likely the first Panerai Chronograph.  However, no original pieces or any other traces can be found.  The only thing they could find were some prototypes, and based on these prototypes, this limited edition model was created.

The price and limitation of this timepiece will probably make it impossible to find it in the wild, and I would assume that those you acquire a piece will simply put it into their safe deposit boxes and wait for a price increase.  But nevertheless, this is an interesting timepieces building on Panerai’s extensive military history.
