Paul Newman stands synonymous for the Rolex Daytona, especially the one with the strange writing inside the chronograph totalisors… 😉
Paul Newman received at least two, but most likely more than that, Rolex Chronographs from his wife Joanne Woodward.
One of them sold at auction yesterday making it the most expensive wristwatch in the world and beating the Patek Philippe perpetual calendar in steel reference 1518. It probably was just a question of time until a Rolex would beat Patek Philippe in terms of most expensive wristwatch. Time will show who grabs the title next…
Elizabeth Doerr, american journalist living in Germany and cofounder of the Quillandpad blog for which I occasionally write as well, wrote about THE Daytona in Forbes. The watch fetched over 17 million US Dollar. And she wrote about the “other” Daytona of Paul Newman.
I may continue this blogpost as I am attending some further information and hopefully a video of the auction which I may share.
