JAQUET DROZ INTRODUCES THE GRANDE SECONDE TOURBILLON MOTHER-OF PEARL, A NEW MARVEL OF FEMININE BEAUTY AND WATCHMAKING VIRTUOSITY
Jaquet Droz‘s signature feature is the “Grande Seconde”. When I first saw Jaquet Droz in Baselworld years ago, this is what I saw in their display windows. In addition, they were painting their dials with art which I had never seen before. While Jaquet Droz used to make automatons centuries ago, they are still able to create them, now even implemented in a wrist watch like the “Singing Bird”, I would call that rather a micro Automaton.
Here we have a beautiful timepiece for a descerning lady. This is a true marvel combining horological mastery with feminine beauty and attractiveness. The mother of pearl dial is shiny and displays colors across the color spectrum.
Originally, the tourbillon served to compensate earth’s gravity. Back then, the tourbillon was implemented in pocketwatches which were worn only in one position and the tourbillon was easily able to account for this position which was vertical. Now with a wristwatch, this has become much more complex, as a wristwatch is not held in one position only. Nevertheless, a tourbillon belongs to the top horological master features in any timepiece, and so it does in this one. Mostly I find it fascinating to watch a tourbillon in action. Try it out.
The caseback shows the beautifully adorned automatic movement with its gold rotor. One of my favorite features on mechanical timepieces is the seethru-caseback.
This watch comes in a 39mm contemporary case which nowadays fits comfortably on most women’s wrists. As this is just a preview, I will shoot real pictures of this timepieces and deliver them after Baselworld.
