Hands-on review of the Fortis Aeromaster Stealth

Hands-on review of the Fortis Aeromaster Stealth

 IMG_3708
The FORTIS reference 655.18.18 Aeromaster Stealth offers a lot more than you can tell from looking at a photo. It is housed in a 42mm stainless steel case which is powder-coated with 2.5 micron black PVD.  Inside there is an ETA 2836-2 ticking which is known for its reliability. The dial displays not only time but also the date and time. While the Aeromaster Stealth is attention grabbing on the one hand thanks to its simple face display, on the other hand the dial is quite complex with raised hour markers and a complexity in its details.

That is why the numerals and indices were incorporated into the outside ring in a raised fashion. This gives the Aeromaster Stealth its unique 3D look, thereby strengthening the perfect readability that the FORTIS Aviatis Collection is so renowned for.
Unlike the 655.10.10 Aeromaster Steel, the hands, numerals and indices on the Aeromaster Stealth were coated in soft beige Super-Luminova that illuminates green in the dark. This and the sapphire glass with anti-reflective coating on both sides are what make this the perfect timepiece for pilots. FORTIS also offers perfectly shaped black leather performance wristbands to match.

This watch is having a fully integrated strap which wears very comfortably.  Overall, this is a great daily wearer offering useful functions in a great package.  The case builds relatively high, yet the watch sits comfortably on your wrist and is not head-heavy.  The crown is easy to wind and set, and it does not cut into your wrist.  That is something I look for with watches.

What I like most about this watch is its “vintagy” look, the luminova is colored in a vanilla tone giving it an aged look.  That combined with an orange seconds hand is reminiscing of vintage watches.

This kind of dial is not just a simple dial that was printed.  The raised indices gives this dial a unique depth, and have required much more work than a simple dial.  It definately increases the value of this timepiece and is truly eyepleasing.
