Description
Omega Seamaster in steel for Melbourne Olympics in 1956 (very rare in steel)
Omega was founded in 1903 by Louis Brandt. Omega is now owned by Swatch Group. The brand is famous for the first watch worn on the moon, notably the Omega Speedmaster. Many famous people, from politicians, royalty to actors are known to wear Omega timepieces. The brand has famous ambassadors such as George Clooney and Nicole Kidman.
Omega has been official timekeeper of Olympic games since 1932. They started to create commemorative watches for these events in the 1950s. The Melbourne Summer Olympics were unique because they were the first summer Olympic games to be held in the southern hemisphere taking place during local summertime of November and December.
This watch carries a caliber 471. I will give some more information as soon as I get to open it.
