Baselworld 2019: Patek Philippe pictorial impressions from press meeting

Baselworld 2019 opened its doors today for the press only.  And Baselworld has changed.  Several levels and halls are closed off.  The main entrance has the same big brands as always, but Swatch Group is missing altogether.  Instead you have a press center, Chanel and some food spots.

The halls were quite empty today.  I am sure it will fill up a lot more tomorrow.  And to speak with Mr. Biver’s words: “we hope that Baselworld 2020 will continue and it would be a catastrophe if not”.  So I think this will be just intermediary.  However, time will tell.

I took time to walk around and soak up the buzz or atmosphere of the fair.  Passed by AHCI and Les Ateliers.  One good thing I believe this  smaller version of Baselworld could have is that lesser known brands may finally get more exposure, more connection to potential clients and become more known that way.

Anyhow, back to Patek Philippe.

Thierry Stern, CEO of Patek Philippe, gave a short speech talking about technological advances in watchmaking at Patek and greeting all of us.

Mr. Michot, responsible for Patek Philippe in Germany, told us that there are 57 new rare handcraft models.  I did not have time to shoot them.  But those deskclocks are absolutely amazing.

As you can see above, ten new men’s timepieces have been introduced at Baselworld this year.  I will show live impressions of these timepieces below.

But first, let me show you information about the technologically most amazing watch, the “Semainier” reference 5212A in steel.  A watch indicating date, day, month and the week.

Below you will see pictures describing the functionality of the movement which make this watch exceptional.  I think it is my favorite piece by Patek this year.

Last but not least, the reference 5212 is derived in a way from vintage reference 2512 as you can see above.

Here are more impressions of the other models.

The above reference 5512 has an amazing alarm function with a little hammer.  I took a video which I will add in the coming days.

So here comes the rest, enjoy.
