My visit at the ateliers of Antoine Preziuso

My visit at the ateliers of Antoine Preziuso

IMG_7604 anpreSome weeks ago I went to Geneva.  This time I met with Antoine Preziuso.  Antoine is a longtime watchmaker who in his early days worked with Franck Muller.  The two created three amazing Rolex Datejust Perpetual Calendar watches. Basically, they took regular Datejusts and turned the movements and dials to perpetual calendars. One of them is still in Antoine’s possession and he will show it to me next time.  The other two are in a collector’s possession and one is offered by a dealer in New York City.

For a long time, I knew nothing about these watches.  I initially thought they may not be what they are.  But a while ago, I found out through a friend that they were truly made by Franck Muller.  Now this visit even cleared things up more for me.

Beyond this accomplishment by the two talented watchmakers, Antoine is the creator of the Tourbillon of Tourbillons.  A watch with three tourbillons.  I don’t know a second one like it.

The movement of the Tourbillon of Tourbillons has three tourbillons.  Nowhere else have I seen anything like that.  The movement is absolutely amazing:

And here is a natural shot:

And last but not least, a wristshot:

The red reflections are unfortunately the result of a red sweater I was wearing when I shot the wristshot.

Antoine and his son Florian make small batches of watches, but they have quite a portfolio of different watches.  In addition, they work with meteorites, but not only to make dials of meteorites, but to make a whole watchcase with it.

Take a look:

You can see how the case was carved out of the whole meteorite.  These meteorites are extremely hard and it is a costly process to cut a whole case out of it.

In addition, Antoine showed me his collection of meteorites and how dials and cases are made from it.  I ended up with a tiny gift, a small meteorite which can be used to wear on a necklace.  It now is worn by my mother.

Let me share some other watches they have made in the past which are part of their current collection:

This is the energy indicator or powerreserve as most call it.  Similar case as the Tourbillon of Tourbillons. Steel case with gold lugs and an amazing dial layout.

The perpetual calendar:

This is the only perpetual calendar Antoine is offering currently.  A very unique and different layout with a moonphase as well.

The above model is one if not the most popular watch Antoine is selling.  There is also a ladies watch, take a look:

Antoine is one of the watchmakers who truly work with their hands and create amazing watches like you do not see much elsewhere.  It takes appreciation, and I can tell you, visiting him in his atelier is a unique experience which helps foster appreciation for fine watchmaking.  I am sure it was not my last visit.
