News: Armin Strom presents Mirrored Force Resonance watch with guilloche dials made by Kari Voutilainen

When Armin Strom introduced the rosegold Mirrored Force Resonance timepice over a year ago, it became an instant success.  I do not know many watches that incorporated the resonance concept.  There are only two others that come to my mind: Beat Haldimann and Francois Paul Journe who made watches based on the resonance concept.

Armin Strom first introduced their customization options to their website at Baselworld 2017.  There you can basically customize and “make your bespoke” timepiece.

The new Mirrored Force Resonance features superb, hand-executed guilloché dials, creating an outstanding synthesis of tradition and innovation – two values dear to the brand. These dials are engine turned at the manufacture of Kari Voutilainen with century old machines.  The work of a guillocheur or guillocheuse is not something you can learn at school, it can only be learnt by doing, by doing it at work.  For those who have seen how this is done, it is a process that takes a lot of preparation, generally, each step takes several hours of preparation by setting the machine to create the dial guilloche pattern.  Then it takes a day or so to create the pattern.  It is not an easy job and takes a lot of experience.

We have seen Kari Voutilainen collaborate with other small manufactures, last Baselworld showed his guilloche dials in the Groenefeld 1941 Remontoire timepiece.

Now, considering the history of Armin Strom, this is a great symbiosis further building on its history and connecting the past with the future based on some very oldschool skills.  Skills that are becoming increasingly rare in Switzerland or elsewhere in the world.  I think this is great step by Armin Strom.

Together with Kari Voutilainen, these are true pieces of art.

The guilloché dials will be available in multiple colors (blue, black, anthracite, red or bi-color), and in several different pattern options (sun-ray, concentric waves or barleycorn), depending on a client’s wish.
