Visiting Oeding Erdel in Münster, Germany

In my previous post I mentioned the authorized jeweler Oeding Erdel in Münster (and they have a second store in Osnabrück).  When I visited them for the Parmigiani exhibition, Thomas, the owner, took plenty of time to show me around and explain to me what his company is about.  And that was quite impressive to say the least.

Oeding Erdel is an authorized jeweler for many watchbrands including:

*
Parmigiani Fleurier
(Parmigiani Bugatti watch available at Oeding Erdel)

*
A. Lange und Söhne
*
Audemars Piguet
*
Breguet
*
Cartier
*
IWC
*
Jaeger-LeCoultre
*
Patek Philippe
*
Panerai
*
Rolex
*
Zenith
*
TAG Heuer
*
Tudor

Oeding Erdel is a paradise for the watch shopper as virtually every better known brand is available.

In addition, they represent the following jewelry brands:

*
Pomellato
*
Jochen Pohl
Over 50% of all jewelry is created inhouse based on their own jewelry designs and development.  That is quite impressive.  There are over 50 people working to make this all happen.  Designers are collaborating together with Gemologists and artisans.  I was able to see everything they are doing and take photos.  Last but not least, there are five watchmakers who are able to repair and overhaul all major brands and can overhaul even Patek Philippe.
Some impressions from the workshop at Oeding Erdel:
First from the jewelry workshop, the machines have been used for many decades, so you can really see how the “manufacture” their jewelry:

The watch workshop: watchmaker at work, overhauling a Rolex Submariner which he showed me after it was finished.  It looked virtually like new.

The cabinet containing all watchparts.  A paradise for any watchenthusiast.  There are parts for all the big names, and plenty of vintage parts as well to repair your old watch.

Parts from a Rolex Submariner where the mainplate was sent to Rolex and the watchmaker is waiting for a new mainplate.

I have visited quite a few watchmanufactures in the past, but this was my first visit of a jeweler, especially a jeweler who is able to do all this work himself.
Rudolf Oeding-Erdel founded the company in the year 1906 and opened the first store on Bahnhofstrasse in Muenster.

At the end of the 1980s, the company moved to Prinzipalmarkt in the center of Muenster and created a much larger store where the product line was increased significantly and more watchbrands as well as more jewelry and pearls were offered to the customer.

The enterprise is now in the third generation, and Thomas Oeding-Erdel joined in 1995. A second store was opened in Osnabrueck in 2002.  Both stores are really worth a visit.
