Fortis’ new Stratoliner Steel p.m. Reference 401.21.31

Stratoliner Steel p.m.

This new Fortis Stratoliner in steel was just introduced at Baselworld.  While the homepage does not show the version with natostrap as pictured here, there are several different possibilites with straps and steel bracelet.  I personally loved the natostrap variant.

The stratoliner goes back to 1962 when it was first introduced.  In the 1990s Fortis used Lemania 5100 calibers while these modern Stratoliners tick on a Valjoux 7750, one of the most reliable tractor movements for chronographs known.

Trying to share some closeups and macroshots.  These were taken rather quickly during the Baselworld fair.  The day and date indications shows quite some depth on the black dial.

The red chrono hand is what many collectors covet.  Some may recall the socalled “Ultraman” Speedmaster with an orange hand, or the Explorer 2 from the 1970s with an orange hand (although that is not a chrono hand).  Colors like orange or red are popular and high in demand.  Especially on chronograph timepieces.

Fortis is offering a special feat on these watches:

As a special highlight Fortis offers to make your watch also “Stratosphere proven”. Your watch will rise with a stratospheric balloon at a height of up to 40,000 meters. At about this height, the balloon bursts and your Stratoliner glides back to the ground secured to a parachute. Due to the earth rotation during the approximately 3-hour flight to the edge of the space, your Stratoliner is then located with the help of a GPS device. An action camera makes stunning pictures of your new watch with our beautiful planet in the background. The additional cost are approx. 7,000 CHF. If you are interested, please write an email to info@fortis-swiss.com.
