Hi there!

Hi there!

as announced by Boris, there’s a new contributor to the Watches and Art blog. Well guys (and gals?), here I am!

I promise to post a proper introduction in a few days, but for now I’d like to start by sharing the story of how Boris and yours truly came to meet. While the story is not particularly exciting and hardly about watches, it is a nice example of how our passion for wristwatches can ignite a long lasting, international friendship;

In January of this year I was selling a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Memovox – the very one that’s been featured on this blog a few times. I put it up on Chrono24, hoping to attract some international buyers since the market for used high-end watches can be slow at times in The Netherlands. When walking to Amsterdam Central Station from work a day or two later I got a call from a gentleman calling from Germany. Those of you who’ve been dealing watchs know: callers are serious buyers! So we talked a while, exchanged a few e-mails and then he said he’d come to The Netherlands and pick it up! Wow, talk about a guy ready to do business and travel for it.. 🙂

We decided to meet two days later in my hometown – Amersfoort, The Netherlands. And sure, ’round noon Boris arrived at my doorstep. We had some coffee, I showed Boris the watch and since we’re both full blown watch geeks, we had a great time ofcourse – and great lunch for that matter, at an Italian restaurant just around the corner, owned by a dear friend of mine and fellow watch enthousiast. But that’s a story for another post.

But here’s the fun part: ever since Boris bought the Memovox we’ve constantly been in touch. There’s hardly been a week in which Boris and I haven’t talked watches, wether it’s by mail, by phone or through Facebook. We’ve met at watchfairs both in The Netherlands as well as in Germany and there will be many more – if only for next weeks fair in Cologne.. (and Boris, let’s try to meet at BaselWorld 2012!)

And this, my fellow watch enthousiasts, is a great thing: making friends all over the world by sharing the love of these little mechanical marvels. Ofcourse I hope to meet many of you IRL soon too 🙂

Since this is my first post on Watches & Art, I’d like to make you a promise: if you have a question related to watches, just e-mail me and I promise to post an answer within 24 hours on this blog. Wether you’re looking for an opinion, a valuation or a historical note – I’ll do my best. Please don’t get to deep into technical details though 😉 . @ dalevito gmail

So, that’s it for now.. enjoy the weekend! And Boris, sell me that gorgeous Sigma Datejust!!

Spread the love
