Kaventsmann – a new upcoming German watchbrand

Micha, a young German, 30 years old, is living in the former French sector of Germany’s new “old” capital called Berlin-Reinickendorf.  He started his new venture of creating his own watch in the garage of his parents.

(first prototype: “Bathyal”, size of the watch is 54 x48x19mm)

More pictures of the prototype, the final watch will be slightly different:

By trade, Micha is an industrial mechanic.

After finishing school he started his own business producing carbon fiber parts for racing bikes.  The acquisition of a CNC lathe led to the creation of parts from Aluminum and Titanium.  Due to unforeseen health issues, Micha was forced to stop the production of carbon fiber parts.

He started to build watches in last April.  It has been his longtime dream to build his own watch, he just never managed to find enough time.  He told me that he was looking for a birthday present for his father and ended up building his first watch for his father.

(This is the watch built for his father’s birthday, he is calling the watch “Cumulus”, it is not that high, just 12mm)

During the process of making this watch, he realized that he is finding great joy in this work.  When he posted the watch in different German watchforums, he received very positive feedback to his surprise.

After his second watch, he started the Bathyal.

(Only 20 Bathyals will be made for the public, as of now, all of them are already reserved afaik)

Everything but the strap and the movement are made by himself. The case, the dial and hands are made by himself.  The case and the crown are made from Bronze CuSN8.

Micha told me how he is making the case: (in German, I will translate this tonite)

Micha realizes that he found his passion: watchmaking.  He researched his ancestry and found out that his grand-grandfather had been a watchmaker.

Micha is planning to create more watches in small series such as 10 to 15 pieces each.  Just look out what he will be doing next.
