Loading...I attended the opening party of Munichtime tonite. The food was phantastic, not surprising though as Bavaria is known for excellent food. Attendance was ok, I have seen more people in the past on the day of the opening party. However, what struck me most, was the assortment of brands. At the entry, you are greeted with Lange & Söhne, a brand with heritage and known for making watches of possibly one of the highest, best and most amazing movement finishes in the watchindustry. But when you walk around, you see all kinds of brands you never heard of, brands offering watches in the range well below 1000 Euros. I find this hard to comprehend, to have such a venue in what may be considered one of the best hotels of Munich, the “Hotel Bayerischer Hof”. So you have Greubel Forsey surrounded with lower end brands. To me this is a very strange mix. Such a venue should in my book have a higher level of brands. But this is just my two cents for what it is worth. Maybe this event is shunned by some large brands? Or even large groups? I am not sure? So at the end, it is an opportunity for small brands and cheaper brands to exhibit their watches? I am just not sure how the mix between super high end brands and low end brands is matching together?
Just giving a first impression of one of the most important watchevents in Germany. Tomorrow I will spend my day there and report with pictures.
